Introduction
Below is a list of the sponsors mentioned in the pages of previous conferences.
Interaction with sponsors needs a central person. It is thought that there will be a LA sponsorship officer at some point soon. At least, there should be (in StewartSmith's opinion :)
We should also take special care to include smaller sponsors (including local businesses). Be aware that often the smaller sponsors are much harder to manage than the larger, corporate ones. Smaller sponsors can sometimes be more trouble than they are worth in $ terms. They simply expect a lot more as their sponsorship $ are a larger % of their "marketing" budget. You need to have fairly strict terms of what a sponsor gets for what level of sponsorship, how "in kind" services are handled etc etc. Just some things to think about.
Possible Sponsors
In addition to many of those who've been previous sponsors there will be local companies:
- Free plugs:
- Those the organisers work for
- Those who loan gear/space for the conf (networking gear, storage)
- Local Vendors:
- Cybersource?
- Other:
- HP and IBM?
- Telstra? (perhaps get hotspot sponsorship?)Internode? AAPT
- Everything linux.
- OSIA and OSV members
- Red Hat?
- oracle, novell, & sun?
- canonical?
