Transport
From MelbLCAWiki
Transport issues, mainly airport <-> accom, but others as needed.
Should we hire a minibus? Could be used for airport transfers as well as the partner program.
Main goal is to look after speakers (airport transfer). General attendees is another matter.

Public Transport
From the MetLink site:
"The Melbourne Delegate Card Provides all day travel within Zone 1 on trams, trains and buses for conference and seminar visitors. A 5% discount applies to the purchase of 100 tickets or more by conference organisers. Please call 03 9619 5200 for further information and to organise purchase."
Buying one per person for a week is probably a good idea. Trams are an easy way to get around the CBD.
It should also be noted that the City Circle tram is free for all passengers, and is a great way to discover new things about the city.

Train
VLine is the Victorian state railway and they provide train services from regional Victoria and interstate services from Adelade and Sydney. Note that Australia doesn't have high speed trains like you find in Europe... the trip on the train between Melbourne and Sydney is a long one - possibly slower than driving (which is 8hrs nonstop).
Include reference to wikipedia:The Ghan as a possible extra thing to do
Bus
Various bus companies offer services to Melbourne from all over Australia.
