Campus Accommodation FAQ

Contents

Is toilet paper provided?

Yes!

How do I book an on-campus room?

Bookings for these rooms can be made during the conference registration process. As part of this form, there is a section where you may select what nights you would like to stay and whether or not you would like a cooked breakfast.

I'm arriving late? What do I do?

The accommodation desk will be open until 9pm on Sunday the 15th and 5pm during the week, however if you are coming outside these times, just call 0477 450 341 and we'll sort you out. It's also a good idea to let us know so we can keep a list of expected late arrivals and just check in to make sure you got in OK if you didn't call us.

Do I need to bring sheets/blankets etc?

Nope, all bedding is provided. Towels are also provided.

How far are the rooms from the main conference area?

It varies slightly depending on which side of the accommodation area you're in, but even the furthest are no more than a 10 minute stroll.

Do you have a map?

Do the rooms have airconditioning?

Unfortunately the campus rooms are not airconditioned. They are, however, very well insulated and Ballarat typically does not get as hot in summer as other parts of Victoria.

Will there be internet access in the rooms?

Each room should have wired internet access. We are investigating the feasibility of wireless access also, but please don't rely upon this being in place.

There is now official information on the wired and wireless network

Double rooms will only have one wired port.

It is a very good idea to bring your own ethernet cable (RJ45 connection). There *is* an Officeworks store and other electronics stores in Ballarat, but it will be easier to bring your own.

Are bathroom facilities shared?

The residences are split into units of between 10 and 14 rooms. Each unit has its own shared bathroom area for use by those staying in the rooms there. We will work to minimise the number of people in each unit (Unless you specifically request to be in a unit with friends etc) so that this should not be a problem.

You will need to bring your own toiletries (soap, shampoo, deodorant etc), as these are not supplied.

What appliances / cooking items are available?

Each unit contains crockery, cutlery, a fridge and kettle.

How do I get into town in the evenings if I want to socialise?

As most of the locations for accommodation are outside of the main Ballarat CBD, we’ll have buses running of an evening to help people get in and out to restaurants and cafes. See the official accommodation page, LCA Buses, and public transport in Ballarat.
